The party of principle (NDP edition)
SO NOW we know the price of NDP virtue:
Naturally, Layton's "furious" at the allegations that public money was used to bolster the Liberals' political fortunes in Quebec. Far better it should be used buying seats for the NDP in Ontario. OH YEAH: Keaimato writes -
Prime Minister Paul Martin could win the support of the New Democrats and avoid a spring election by cutting corporate tax cuts and addressing Ontario's so-called fiscal gap, NDP leader Jack Layton said Monday. "If he's willing to take some of the surplus, if he's willing to reduce the corporate tax cut and invest it now, then we don't have to have an election," Layton told reporters.

Why is this even a story? Right now, the standings are: Liberals 132, Conservatives 99, Bloc 54,NDP 19, Ind 3, Vacant 1. So a majority is 154. Libs + NDP = 151. Since the independent members are Parrish (disgraced and booted out former Liberal), Cadman (Conservative who won as an independent), and Kilgour (former Conservative and recently former Liberal), there's no real chance that all three would vote with the government. We can assume that the Conservatives and the Bloc could defeat the government if everyone shows up. So how come this is news again? Didn't we cover the 'NDP aren't power brokers' story after the last election?Yeesh. If you're going to sell out, you should at least have something to sell. WAIT A MINUTE: Weren't the NDP just in bed with the Conservatives? Or was it the Conservatives who were in bed with the Bloc? It's like Melrose Place over there.
