HERE'S A GRAF that didn't make the cut:

Somewhere Joe Peschisolido is smiling. Mr. Peschisolido was an ambitious young opposition MP who thought if he crossed the floor to the Liberals he might get a job out of it. He got a glass of orange juice with the Prime Minister and was never heard from again. But that was in a gentler age, when Jean Chretien was still the boss. For Mr. Chretien, you see, was a man of principle. Ward-heelers, sycophants, made men, Laurence Macaulay, all these he appointed ministers of the crown: but Mr. Chretien never handed responsibility for a major government department to a total amateur.

For those eager to reminisce about those dear, departed days, here's my column on Mr. Peschisolido's short career as a Liberal.
