Commenting on this attractive and compelling graphic, currently featured on the Liberal website, Kate describes the scene as "holes in the ground, surrounded by mud," and wonders whether it is meant to subliminally suggest "a quagmire." Well, obviously that's not the case. Clearly, they're preparing to bury their dead. Or perhaps, digging in for a last stand? I don't know.
