This is interesting. Alert Reader Paul Buller has done a regression analysis of previous federal election results. As the chart below shows (click to enlarge), an 8% lead in the popular vote -- more or less where the Tories are now -- has historically been the line separating majority governments from minorities. Of course, that may not obtain in the present case, your mileage may vary etc.
