Everyone's a winner, baby, that's the truth
Before we go any further, due acknowledgment should be paid to the big winners in this election: The Election Prediction Project, overseen by Milton Chan, which once again came closer than any other forecaster to nailing the result -- yes, even beating the UBC Election Stock Market. I'm guessing the sneers about Chan's Liberal ties may now subside.
Second place: DemocraticSpace, run by architect and urban planner Greg Morrow. Both these gentlemen will now be accepting fat fees as political consultants, it's safe to predict.
Finally, a big shout out to Nik Nanos and all the kids at SES Research, who once again got the final pre-election poll right, and were once again alone among the pollsters in doing so. I never doubted them.
POSTSCRIPT: I'll get to the winners among entrants in our own exclusive prizeless pool as soon as I've got some food inside me. URP! Back from lunch, and we have a winner: It's a certain P. Manning Calgary -- not, I think, the former Reformer -- with a cumulative error of 12. A three-way tie for second, at 16 off, between Horseface, Stork, and Meerschaum: give it to Horseface for getting the 1 independent. The Asterisk Award goes to Manganic, who had it 124 Tories, 100 Liberals, 56 Bloc -- and 38 NDP, which adds up to 318 seats and thus disqualifies him from eligibility. It's possible he meant NDP 28, in which case he would have taken the prize with a score of 10 (note: there is no prize). Alas, the judges are not permitted to read entrants' minds.
