"Mr. Martin is trying to make Canadians believe we could stack a court when we could make one appointment in the next seven years," [Harper] told reporters. "I don't think you have to be very good at math to figure out you can't stack a court with one appointment."
It's a premise that works if none of the other Supreme Court judges retire early or pass away unexpectedly.
You mean ... why yes, I can see it now ... in order to carry out their secret plan to stack the Supreme Court ... the Conservatives are plotting to kill a few of the judges! They'll kill them, then stack 'em. I mean, stack it! MORE: Then there's this gem:
But they have not fully addressed allegations that they have asked their candidates on the far right of the political spectrum to keep those views to themselves. When asked why his candidates who oppose gay unions have been hustled away from the national media, Mr. Harper replied:
[Insert defensive Harper spluttering here.] Opposing gay marriage puts you on the far right? I've been writing in favour of gay marriage for ten years, but I never supposed that everyone who disagreed with me, including until very recently the Liberal Party of Canada (Paul Martin, prop.), was on the "far right." It would be truer to say that I, and others on my side of the debate, are on the far left, given that we are proposing a radical social innovation few other countries on Earth have dared implement. Is the French Socialist party, whose position (civil unions) is identical to that of the Conservatives, on the "far right," Gloria? Incidentally, I think your question is its own answer.
