Let the bloodletting begin! (Liberal edition)
Tomorrow's column asks the musical question, whither the Liberal party? But for now, let's keep the focus on the recriminations and finger-pointing, as played out in the coming leadership race. To manipulate assist in this important and necessary part of the political process, I am conducting a highly misleading push-poll.
You are invited to answer three multiple-choice questions: 1) Who will win the race to be the next Liberal leader? 2) Who should win, from the Liberal standpoint, ie the usual mix of good-for-the-party, good-of-the-country? 3) Who should win, from the Tory standpoint, ie on the purely Machiavellian criterion of who would make the weakest opponent? (NB: Please answer the poll directly, ie by clicking on the links -- not in the comments!)
I've included on the list the eight names I've heard mentioned most often as candidates, plus my own personal write-in candidate, Stephane Dion. Let me know if I've missed anyone.
UPDATE: Several people suggested Bob Rae. He is talked about as a candidate, though the word is he won't run if his old friend Michael Ignatieff does. Anyway, he should probably be on the list.
Problem: The PollHost template doesn't seem to allow for editing a poll's terms after it's been posted. Solution: I've added a separate poll for Rae. Mark this only if he's your choice for Will Win, Should Win (Liberal-Friendly Perspective) or Should Win (Machiavellian Tory Perspective). I realize the other candidates have a head start, but that more or less mimics reality, since Mr. Rae, should he run, will find his candidacy delayed by such formalities as joining the party.
Anyway, it should even out over time. I'll add his numbers to the others for the final tally.
