It's a trick! It's a trick!

Unless, of course, it isn't:
Conservative memo urges troops to prepare for possible election "within a week": The Conservative party has warned its members that a federal election campaign could start within days, in an internal letter that makes an "urgent" appeal for donations...

"We need to be ready to campaign within the next week," said the note, sent to party members Thursday....

Maybe they just want us to think it's a trick. Maybe they're putting this out so we'll discount it as a ruse! No, wait -- maybe they want us to think that they're trying to trick us into thinking it's a trick, when in fact it is a trick! Or maybe...

I'm reminded of that scene from Little Big Man:

General Custer asks Dustin Hoffman's character if he should chase the Indians into the valley.

Hoffman's character says if he does there is the biggest bunch of Sioux Custer has ever seen, waiting to massacre him.

Custer smiles and says: You want me to think that you want me to stay out of the valley. But the subtle truth is - you want me to stay out of that valley.

If they'd intended for it to stay secret, they wouldn't have sent it to the entire Conservative membership.

No, this is just the regular old partisan fundraising hyperbole. Until recently, I got it regularly from Mike Eizenga. Now, it comes from Scott Brison, though mellower than it used to be.

Josh, "regular old fundraising hyperbole"? You're just going to let Stephen Harper inflict his ideological, Republican, anti-woman, anti-immigrant, anti-puppy, anti-sunshine agenda (or wait, is that pro-too-much-sunshine) on Canada, without so much as a 75% tax deductible donation of up to $1000?? Canada needs you!!
