As a GSM device, what would Rogers do if a subscriber obtained the device legally elsewhere, and inserted their "GSM chip"?Perhaps someone knows whether the iPhone requires specific equipment in the carrier's network in order to activate various features?
The visual voicemail would require operator support.Otherwise an unlocked iPhone will work on any GSM network worldwide with the an operator SIM card.
another round of applause for the people who let Ted Rogers buy the only other GSM operator in Canada!Maybe a GSM VNO could do it but it would take the kind of money only Ted has to blow on the Jays to make it work.
Could we please have more deregulation and competition please, CRTC? PLEASE????
It's hardly worth mentioning, but gsmworld.com does list one other GSM operator in Canada, in addition to Microcell and Rogers.Unfortunately, icewireless.ca doesn't currently list any proposed coverage areas in "southern" Canada.
All Rogers is saying here is that there has been no official announcement yet. They're probably prevented by contract with Apple from announcing anything yet, and want to keep their noses clean.
Don't panic just yet:http://www.iphoneworld.ca/news/2007/04/06/iphone-confirmed-for-rogers-wireless-in-canada-again/
